Are you thinking about Sarasota pet boarding for upcoming holiday or business travel? If so, it is natural to have questions about what to expect at our animal boarding kennels and our general approach to animal wellcare. Below, our Sarasota veterinarian answers three of your most frequently asked questions about the benefits of pet boarding.
Yes; pets that are anxious or experience separation anxiety typically relax after settling into their new environment. Our compassionate, loving staff provides plenty of personalized attention to help your pet acclimate. Most importantly, an environment with other humans and pets is preferable to leaving your pet home alone. Even if a friend or neighbor is able to check on your pet, your sudden absence can mean a big change in your pet’s daily routine. For pets that are already stressed or anxious, this can lead to bigger problems, including destroying furniture or trying to escape.
In general, unless you are visiting a friend or relative’s home that is just a short drive away, boarding your pet is the safest and smartest choice. Holiday travel can be a headache for even the most experienced traveler; imagine how stressful this is when your pet is being crated and sitting on the airport tarmac in between flights! Even long car trips can be difficult for pets. If your destination is more than a short drive away, we strongly recommend boarding, rather than trying to take your pet along on your travels.
Consider boarding your pet for a one night “trial run”; this is an opportunity for your pet to acclimate to our environment and reassure your pet that you’ll be back to pick him up!
